Mark Hawkins made his introduction in 2001 with releases on DJAX, Automatic, and the first Ugly Funk 12" and 'Ball Lightning' continues in a similar vein to his previous releases - hard, relentless and unpredictable jacking techno that should rock the harder dancefloors. But with this four tracker he also shows a few more strings to his bow...But the standout track here by miles is 'Crowd Control', mutilating the chorus from The Human League's 'Sound of the Crowd' and laying it down under a floor wrecking electro stomp, wiping the floor with many of the recent 80's influenced productions, this is retro-mutation at its finest.
