I'M TOO SEXY FOR THIS SHOW

Colourful lights, synthesisers, and a huge crowd in Sandton's ritzy convention centre - last weekend's 5fm pre-Grand Prix party was a dubious pleasure!

I grew up in Europe and made it through the '80s and early '90s. I had hoped the music we labelled "eurotrash" was a thing of the past.

Well, it wasn't last Saturday, when pop icons Human League, Dannii Minogue and Right Said Fred performed alongside German cover-band Boogie Pimps, Dutch starlet Kim-Lian and UK powerhouse Rachel McFarlane.

I don't deny Human League's talent with melodic synth-pop. And it's always nice to see international stars support a humanitarian cause, with proceeds to Unite Against Hunger and the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund…

…However ironic, I must agree with a comment made on SABC1's Popstars last month: SA has talented musicians who can show people around the world how to get their groove on. Which is where Saturday's performers failed!
