Among such chancers, The Human League know they’re better than this. Rehabilitated by electroclash, their sound has not waned with age, remaining fresh – a kind of deja-anew.
Pity then, that their equipment packed in midway. “We’ve been touring since 1977”, apologised Phil Oakey. “This is the worst breakdown we’ve ever had.”
The venue was ill-judged, remote from public transport. With few taxi firms operating, non-sober punters were looking at two-hour waits at best, as if they’d called from Narnia.
